Founded in 1901 the ECA has some 2000 member firms, which range from local employers with only a few operative to national multi-service companies with many branches.  In addition to traditional power and lighting outlets many members specialise in complex high technology control, telephone, data communications and security systems for automated office, industrial plant and environmental services.   The ECA is dedicated to ensuring that electrical installation work is undertaken by qualified people to high standards of quality and safety.
